Involvement in ADA Organisation

At the 1997 AGM it was decided that schools should play a greater part in the organisation of the ADA.

This involvement may consist of

The person provided need not be a teacher. It can be a parent or a student, a friend or a spouse, or anyone else the school can provide.

We do not expect that schools will need to contribute more often than once every seven years and we will maintain a register of past committments. Schools will be asked to serve in an order based on the number of teams entered. We expect that some schools, with only a few teams, will never be asked to serve.

Of course, there is nothing to stop a school from contributing support without being asked. If an offer of support is declined in any particular year that does not count as that school's year of service.

Schools that do not comply with these requirements will be limited as to the number of teams that may enter the school debating competitions.

Schools that are required to serve in 1998

If you want to enter a total of five or more teams in the 1999 schools debating competitions you can expect to be asked to serve the ADA. Of course if every school reads this and submits four teams, the threshold will drop accordingly.

For schools entering this many teams I consider it appropriate that a coach take one less (perhaps no teams) for a year in order to serve on the ADA organisation.

You may need to refresh our memories as to past service by your school.

A brief description of the roles

ADA Executive

To serve on the Executive you need to be able to travel to Mt Roskill on the evening of the second Tuesday of the month. A total time committment of about 10 hours per year is required. There are 4 ordinary committee members, a treasurer who will need to keep the books of account, a secretary to keep minutes, and a vice-president and president who should show signs of leadership.

ADA Complaints Panel The complains panel meets as required to hear appeals against the decision on a complaint made to the competition coordinator, or
