Rules Presidents' Cup (Impromptu Debating)

  1. Each team shall consist of two speakers
  2. For each debate two subjects chosen by the Executive shall be placed in an envelope
  3. A coin shall be tossed by the Organiser or Chair and the team winning the toss shall have the choice of subject or side
  4. From the time when sides are determine the Affirmative shall have three minutes preparation before their Leader opens their case
  5. Speaking times shall be five minutes for each speaker; with 2 minute replies by each Leader
  6. There shall be one warning bell at four minutes during the main speeches. There shall be two bells to signal the expiration of time for all speeches.
  7. Interjections shall be permitted, but not points of order will be allowed.
  8. Debaters will not be permitted to refer to books or other reference texts once the debate has commenced
